Barkerville is a really famous ghost town in BC. Although it is not the larges historical site,
it is certainly the most well known. It was a gold mining town in the 1800's, and is well known for having burnt down
twice and being rebuilt both times. Now, most of the structures have been repaired or re-modelled to give a real feeling
of what life would have been like for those that lived there. Some of the main features are the tavern, the court house,
and China Town. Every day there are performers walking the boardwalks in old-time clothes, and there are skits performed
daily as well. There is also a playhouse that you should definietly check out too.
As for accomodation, when I stayed there we were in one of the many Bed and Breakfasts located in the town, which was a
great way to stay there. The room we had was actually said to be haunted, although we never got a glimpse of the ghost.
While you are in the area, the town of Wells, which is less than an hour away, is also a cute little spot to check out. It's
kind of a 'hippy' town, with lots of bright colours and cool shops, and a cabaret.
