Rygel
(voiced by Jonathan Hardy) is Dominar to over 600 billion subjects, as
he claims at every opportunity. Rather, he would be Dominar, if he
hadn't had his throne stolen while he was sleeping. And by his cousin,
no less. Rygel was betrayed, accused of a false crime, and handed over
to the Peacekeepers, remaining a prisoner for over 130 cycles (years).
His sole dedication is to regaining the throne, and he works endlesly
toward this goal, though he has much difficulty, since his Empire is
far from the Uncharted Territories. Rygel is a Hynerian, a race of
aquatic bipeds that reproduces extremely fast and live for a very long
time. Rygel is dissenting, petulant, whiny, and oftentimes
untrustworthy, though his attempts to leave the crew always fail. But
Rygel is also brutal, unforgiving and without mercy, and he delights in
the murder of his enemies. He constantly floats around on his
hover-sled, providing an opinion nobody ever listens to, and the whole
crew underrates him even though he is exceptionally brilliant and a
master strategist. Though Rygel claims that he only stays with the crew
because they are his best bet of surviving until he can regain his
throne, he often shows an uncharacteristic compassion for the crew, and
among them a specific affection for Zhaan. Rygel has many nicknames,
given to him by Crichton, among which are Buckwheat, Sparky, Fido and
Spot. Rygel loves food more than anything else in the universe, and
often does nothing but eat. He is extremely flatulent, and farts helium.
He's also an actual muppet, being that the Jim Henson company created
the show.
