Favorite Players

My two favorite players are Fernando Torres of Spain, and Lionel Messi of Argentina:

Fernando Torres

Born in Fuenlabrada, Spain in 1984, "El Nino" is a 6 ft 1in Striker who currently plays for Liverpool in the English Premier League and for the Spanish national team. He started his career playing for Atletico Madrid from 2001-2007. Atletico Madrid was in the Segunda division when he first started playing for them, but they were promoted to La Liga after his first two years. In 2007 he was sold to Liverpool for a rumoured 25 million pounds, which today is roughly $40 million. He wears number 9 and in 214 appearances for Atletico he scored 82 times, and has 61 goals for Liverpool in 94 appearances. For Spain, since 2003, Torres has 26 goals in 82 games.

Lionel Messi

Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1987, and is a 5 ft 7 in forward who plays for Barcelona of La Liga and for the Argentinian national team. He has played his entire career in Barcelona and has 103 goals in 156 games since 2004. In international play, Messi has 15 goals in 53 appearances and is considered one of the best players of his time, drawing comparisons to Diego Maradona. He won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award in 2009 and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying,

"Once he's on the run, Messi is unstoppable. He's the only player who can change direction at such a pace. He is the best player in the world by some distance. He can take advantage of every mistake we make."
