Henrik Sedin  and his twin brother Daniel (also a huge player on the Vancouver Canucks) were both born on September 26, 1980. Henrik Sedin is an alternate captain of the Canucks. Henrik and his twin are known for their amazing and somewhat intuitive play-making with one another. Henrik, a skilled passer, is known as the playmaker, while Daniel is known as the goal-scorer. Both of the Sedin twins have spent their entire career in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks, and Henrik has lead the team in socring in the 2007/2008 and the 2009/2010 season. Actually, this year Henrik lead the entire NHL in scoring, making him the winner of the Art Ross Trophy. He also set a franchise record for the most assists and points in a single season. Henrik has also played in the Olympics for Sweden, winning a gold medal in 2006 (in Turin).

Many of Henrik's plays are generated off the "cycle" (to maintain a team's possession of the puck in the offensive zone by handling and passing the puck in a loop from the boards near the goalie, up the side boards and passing to back to the boards near the goalie). Henrik has started to be more of a goal scorer since the 2008-2009 season, which has been atributed to his brother's major injury in the early 2009-2010 season, which arguably forced Henrik to play without his borther, thus having to pass less often. He made his brother very proud by producing two 20 goal seasons. Though far from any kind of pushover, Henrik usually avoids contact with opposing players, which has obviously lead to very very few fights! The ugly nick-name the "Sedin Sisters" came out from the media in reaction to both Henrik and Daniel being knocked off the puck quite easily, at least in the beginning of their career. Both have improved significantly over the past few seasons, especially Henrik who, this season, came quite close to violent confrontations from opposing players.

Why is Henrik Sedin player of the Year? Henrik had to play outside his comfort zone this year, with his borther out with a broken foot.In November, Henrik scored his first career hat trick in an 8-2 win over the Colarado Avalanche. That same month Henrik was able to score seven goals in seven games. In December, he was named the Second Star of the game, a reward for his recording of 25 points in 13 games. In January, against the Coyotes, Henrik got three assists. This was the first time that a Canucks player led the league in scoring since Markus Naslund in 2004. In February, he recorded his 416th career assist to beat Trevor Linden as Vancouver's all-time leader. To add insult to injury, he did this playing against the Canucks' rival team, the Calgary Flames. March saw Henrik become the fourth Canuck in team history to record a 100-point season. In April, at the beginning of the final game of the regular season against the Calgary Falmes, Henrik was merely one point behind Ovechkin for the scoring lead. By the end of the game, Henrik had bolted past Ovechkin, recording four assists in a 7–3 win to finish the season with 112 points, also breaking Pavel Bure's franchise record of 110 points, which was set in the 1992-1993 season. With 83 assists under his belt, Henrik also broke the Canucks' team record of 71 assists in a single season. During the playoffs this year, Henrik clocked out at 14 points in 12 games. Not bad! The LA Kings saw Henrik win the scoring goal with three minutes to go in the third period.  This would tie the series at two, and the Canucks would go on to eliminate the Kings in that round of the playoffs. Finally, the Hart Memorial Trophy was awarded to Henrik as he was deemed to be the most valuable player on his team. Like this website, The Sporting News named Henrik their 2009-2010 Player of the Year after Henrik recieved 108 first-place votes. Superstars Ovechkin and Crosby received merely 86 and 72 first-place votes, respectivly. Now THAT must have felt good!
