Pennington's Dance / Russell... 17

Pennington watched Nora. Actually Pennington watched everyone on his street and around the corner too. He knew what Nora did and when she was home. After 35 years, it was hard not to know someone, for you could tell a lot by the groceries they bought and Mr. Pennington believed he knew Nora well.
"Nana, its old Pennington and he's dressed to kill. You should see him." Whispered Carly as she dashed from the front room to the kitchen.
"And what's he doing here?" said Nora.
"Well Nana, he has flowers and his good coat and hat on. I think he has come to court you. Is that how they say it over here?" Teased Carly.
"Oh and he can go to HELL!" said Nora vehemently. "Where on God's earth did he get the idea I would court him." Nora continued setting the table, but began unconsciously to wipe her hands on her apron and peeked around the doorway and down the hall.
