Accomplishments, Significant Initiatives and Activities as Associate Dean & Dean of Graduate Programs

  • Wrote the Graduate FTE Funding Request document for the Office of Provost that was submitted to BC Ministry of Advanced Education (2007)
  • Developed initiatives for distributing FTE funding for recruitment / retention of graduate students at UNBC (2007-2012) by creating new university-wide entrance scholarships, research travel awards and assistantships, and enhanced other awards, i.e., conference travel awards.
  • Wrote and submitted of Application for Exempt Status from DQAB Process for Doctoral Programs document for the Office of the Provost that was submitted to BC Ministry of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology (2011). Participated fully in the 1-day review by external reviewers.
  • Reviewed for approval by Senate: MSc Business Administration degree proposal (2008 - 2010); MEd (Special Education) degree proposal (2009/10); Master of Business Administration degree changes (2007/08)
  • Reviewed: Criteria and terms of reference for UNBC MBA Advisory Committee (2010)
  • Reviewed and/or Approved all graduate processes for approvals of courses, registration, admission, etc.
  • New Doctoral Degree: Co-wrote proposal for PhD Health Sciences new degree that was submitted to BC Government (2009/2010) including sole author for providing supplemental documentation following government provincial external review. Participated in BC Ministry of Advanced Education Expert External reviewers. Wrote and submitted “Supplemental Information for PhD Health Sciences Review” as requested by Reviewers. Wrote and submitted “Response to Expert Panel to Ministry” as requested by Ministry.
  • Leader in Orientation Activities for Graduate Students in January and September semesters since 2007- 2012
  • Chair of Examining Committee for PhD defences and Master defences (~110 since 2007)
  • Presentation to UNBC Board of Governor’s (2008); UNBC Senate (2011); Graduate Program Town Hall (2011)
  • Meetings with Premier’s Technology Council; BC government officials; local groups and coalitions
  • Leader in several retreats with the Office of Registrar; administrative graduate programs; Interdisciplinary Graduate Program
  • Coordinated “Rising Stars of Research” for UNBC at The University of British Columbia (2009, 2010);“Superjudge” for posters presented in the theme area of Physical and Earth Sciences at “Rising Stars of Research”; Presentation to delegates about UNBC at “Rising Stars of Research”
  • Coordinated increasing electronic footprint of Graduate Programs via social media – hired graduate student to develop Facebook, Twitter and Blog sites.
