According to the British Columbia College of Teachers' Standards for the
Education, Competence and Professional Conduct of Educators in British
Columbia, a professional educator adheres to eight standards. Five of
the standards have been grouped under the title of "Professional
Qualities" as they deal with such issues of professional as valuing
children, communicating with parents, and a teacher's responsibility.
Two of the standards have been grouped under the theme of "Background
Knowledge" since they deal with a teacher's understanding and
application of child and adolescent development and the teacher's
content knowledge. One standard is categorized under the heading of
"Capacity to Teach" and includes the teacher's ability to plan,
instruct, assess, evaluate, and report.
For ease of navigation, the buttons to the left take the viewer to each
of the three themes on which appears hyperlinks to the respective BCCT
standards.
