INGENIKA LOGGING
- The Government of Canada supports First Nations in their
efforts to create economic opportunities for themselves
that will lead to increased employment, wealth and
self-reliance. As First Nation economies are revitalized
as a result of economic development programs such as this,
British Columbia's overall economic climate will benefit.
- The funding will help the Tsay Keh Dene to consolidate
their current businesses and timber tenures into a
sustainable and profitable forestry venture, to increase
their ability to benefit further from existing forestry
opportunities and to develop new access to timber. While
the Tsay Keh Dene community is intended to be the primary
beneficiary of these projects, their joint venture
partners in the Tsay Tay Forestry (Kwadacha First Nation,
Slocan Group and Abitibi Consolidated) will also benefit
from increased forestry activity by the First Nation. In
turn, the surrounding communities will also benefit from
sound working relationships and increased forestry
employment.
Tsay Tay Forestry
- Based in the community of Tsay Keh Dene, Ingenika
Logging has been in operation since 1992. In May 2000, the
Tsay Keh Dene acquired a 15 year Forest Licence for the
harvest of 53, 404 cubic metres per year.
- The Tsay Keh Dene community is located at the north end
of the Williston reservoir in north-central B.C., and has
a membership of 315 people.
