Happy Endings

Lately, I've been reading short stories that are so bleak
they make me want to throw myself in front of a train. With
the darkness of November approaching, I thought that perhaps
offering you more depressing reading would not be prudent,
so for this issue of Reflections on Water I searched out
happy stories, poems and images. Not happy as in the von
Trapps skipping hand in hand through the alpine meadows
tearing up flowers and throwing them in the air. No, not
that kind of happy. What I offer you here are poems and
stories with upbeat endings. The beginnings, and even some
of the middles of these pieces, may make you want to pull
an Anna Karenina, but they all end on a positive note; conflicts
are met, hope lurks, and our lack of faith in humanity is
temporarily suspended. I hope you enjoy this issue.
