In the aftermath of September 11th it is crucial to cultivate humour, for laughter fuels the human spirit and is essential for survival. For this reason, I decided to dedicate this issue of Reflections on Water to humour. I thought of the title for this special issue, What’s So Funny, and then found it ironic that many interested contributors, when they heard the title, commented: well, I write, but I don’t have anything humorous to contribute. I wondered why so few people thought they had anything funny to write. Perhaps, like myself, they find provincial, national, and international events no laughing matter. This is all the more reason to remind ourselves to laugh, to find humour in ordinary events and to share stories, poems, photos, and anecdotes that will arouse a chuckle, or at least a smile.
