Meals With My Big Daddies
by Si Transken

cohen, rogers, cummings, brecht, kafka, may, marx, findley
goffman, frankl, denzin, camus, morgantaler,

dark-minded gentle
dissecting unnaturalness in human nature,
desiring to redesign us with the power of their sad words,
i claim burdenedmen as my fathers.

uncharitably, these souls, deliver sustenance.
unblinkingly eating distastful life-buffets
served on broken plates with sharp edges
calmingly reminding,
brain-nutrients must be eaten slowly
with our hurt-sticky fingers bandaged.

i pluck out squirmy insects,
& artfully throw them
(not under the old table but)
on screamingly-opium-red centerpiece dishes.

i see, spice, swallow
my servings differently than my male mentors, of course,
but they always expected that.
