A Hello Memo
by Si Transken

  a gutter may be
a shallow trough for roof overflow,
a channel at street’s edge
for sludge & dirt to drain away,
an indentation burnt
down the sides of a candle,
&, more wholesomely,
a gutter can embrace the flow
of natural rain.

a social worker may be
the place the pain of process
seeps over, the road’s sides
for filth to be carried away by,
the human-skinned space where fire
cuts a path away,
&, more insistently,
a social worker can conduit
faith, bliss, intuition.

a creative writing may be
the game of scrabble
that i play by my self,
a shuffling & rearranging
of feels behind words like
murder suicide anguish
take destroy, a way to trickster
& dance the meanings
of joy, hope, thrill, release.

so would you like to read
a gutter social worker
