Position 1: Mission Control Position 2: New York Position 3: Chill Dog
These are the first three positions of Eddie Bravo's rubber guard. The mission control position is the beginning position in which you must make sure the leg that is not across the neck is positioned on the back or your foot is controlling the hip of your opponent. Your grip on the ankle is also very important, notice how the wrist is against the shin and the forearm is tight against the opponent's clavicle. These points help you to have better control of your opponent, with a very high guard, which is important for many submission attempts. The second position is the New York position. Here Eddie has forced his opponent's hand to the mat and hugged his own knee in close to him. Giving him further control and allowing more submission attempts with that hand on the mat. There is a number of different techniques to get the hand to the mat, as well as two armbars, a triangle choke, and a bicep crush from the mission control position if these fail. Once the hand is secured on the mat it's time to switch to the chill dog position. The chill dog position is the same as the New York position except that you have moved your forearm to the other side of the neck, placing more pressure on the neck and pressure on the opposite clavicle. The position is now extremely uncomfortable for your opponent. This transition must be done quickly as it gives the opponent an opportunity to escape. If the transition fails you can always go for a low percentage omaplata, or a number of armbars or triangles. There are now two options you must try that you are in this position, first the invisible collar submission which is very high percentage. Next if your opponent dose not give in to the pressure placed on their neck and clavicle it's time to switch to the gogoplata or the slightly higher variation of this submission the locoplata.
Locoplata
Here is a picture of the locoplata, in this technique Eddie has brought his foot under the chin of his opponent. At which point he grabs his own toes and places pressure downward with his forearm across the back of the neck. This is called the Gogoplata, if this choke dose not work Eddie simply transitions to the locoplata by placing his foot on his own heel, and applying pressure in an upward direction. I could not find any pictures of the invisible collar submission, it is a very good submission to work once in the chill dog position and is done by bringing your other leg around and interlocking your ankles together. This places lots of pressure on your opponent's neck and clavicle. There are many youtube videos about this submission, the best of which can be found here http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=teCZnLy36jc. After trying these two submissions you can transition into the jiu claw technique to go for an omaplata.
Omaplata
This here is the omaplata technique, you get into it by pushing on your opponent's face away from your body from the chill dog position and rotating your body while maintaining control of your opponent's hand that has been trapped to the mat. This technique is call the Jiu Claw, another technique I could not find pictures for. The omoplata is a very poor submission as opponents often times roll out of it before you can gain control of their bodies and sit up to get enough leverage to tweak the arm. This however allows an easy transition into the spider's web position, where the success rate of getting submissions on your opponent is in the 90% range if you are well versed. Even if you do not transition to this position correctly you have still gained side control position and will end up on top of your opponent. Giving you better position both for submissions and points than your original starting position on your back. With many submission attempts along the way to gain you even more points in competition. Making Eddie Bravo's Rubber Guard system a must for submission wrestlers, especially if you are flexible enough to pull it off. From the side control position we then go to twister side control, and the twister neck crank submission.
