Humic Podzolic Soil


Humic Podzols have dark-colored B horizon resulting from the accumulation of organic matter. Organic matter content in the B horizon exceeds 2%. They deveopled under heath or forest with heath or sphagnum undergrowth and mostly in cool to cold p erhumid climates. One can find Humic Podzol in the humid areas of Cape Breton Island, New Foundland and the Coast forest of British Columbia. 

The parent materials are normally low in iron content. 

Selected properties:

They have 

1. Bh horizon at least 10 cm thick 

2. no ortstein at least 3 cm thick, a placic horizon, a duric horizon and fragipan. 

Common horizon sequence: LFH or O, Ae, Bh, Bfgj, BCgj, Cg
