Nora let Julia's unkind words go in one ear and out the other. "Like I'm talking to the wall talkin' to you Nora Flemming." Julia would say. Nora loved Henry and though secretly she agreed with Julia, she couldn't bring herself to say anything to Henry about what her needs were of him. He was a good man. He wanted to do more, but felt prayer was the answer to everything.
Nora and Henry had met in Ireland, she was 28, and he was 42. Henry had been stationed near the town where Nora lived and worked as a domestic. Not long after their first meeting, Henry asked Nora to marry him and she said yes in a flash. "At the time I thought anything was better than where I was, and true enough Henry was good to me." Nora would tell Julia. "He's not the worst of them Julia."
