Pennington's
Dance / Russell... 22
"Oh. Daisy's. Thank you Mr. Pennington. They're early this year. Did you grow them in your own garden?"
"No. No. I had them in the shop. Mrs. Nouwen brought them in for me to sell for her. She has the time for gardening. Not like me who has to mind the shop and then feed myself and all the rest. No. No time for flowers for me. There hasn't been a garden in my yard since my dear wife passed away, God rest her soul." As they stood there, Mr. Pennington rambled on, trying to get the message across to Nora that he was a busy man who needed someone to help with things like the garden and after his explanation Pennington paused wondering why Nora didn't move aside and invite him in.
"What am I to do now?" he thought. "Should I leave or invite myself in?" As Pennington stood staring at Nora, he became aware of Carly standing beside her partly behind the door. Mr. Pennington didn't know what to do.
