Bernard Hill's Past Stuff |
Bernard Hill has been in the film and theatre industry since the early 1970s, making his first TV appearance in Hard Labour in 1974.
Hill came into his own with his role as Yosser Hughes in Boys From The Blackstuff in 1982, earning him plenty of recognition from his peers and the British film industry.
After his portrayal of Hughes, Hill faded out of the limelight for a good part of the 1980s, only to re-emerge in a number of successful films such as Shirley Valentine, Bellman & True, and Drowning By Numbers.
|
Through the 90s, Hill spent most of his time on stage or in TV roles. In the late 90s, he was busy directing a play before the call for Lord Of The Rings came in. Hill was originally offered the role of Gandalf, but turned it down, only to be offered the part of Theoden weeks later. Peter Jackson knew a king when he saw one, it seems. |
