The first thing you need to know how to do is mine resources. The goal is to have enough resources to build an army, the only problem is that Protoss is the most expensive race in the game, but this also means they are the strongest. As with all the other races there are only two units you can buy with just minerals that is the builder/miner and the races base unit. For Protoss the base unit is the zealot. If you focus on just mining minerals you can only make zealots, therefore you must mine gas. knowing when to mine gas is a judgement call, you have to consider the rate of minerals you are producing to the size of your current army of zealots if you have any. When you believe that you have enough zealots to protect yourself or if you can still produce zealots and still have enough minerals to make other buildings, it is time to begin mining gas.
