Barrel Racing

Barrel racing has no judges, time is the deciding factor. Time is measured to the hundredth of a second. In barrel racing, riders must cross the start line and complete a pattern, weaving in between and around three barrels. The ride time is finished when the rider crosses the start line after completing the pattern. An electric eye starts the clock as soon as the rider crosses the start line, and stops the clock as soon as the rider re-crosses the line. Riders will be given a five second penalty for knocking down a barrel or breaking the pattern.
Barrel racing horses must be swift, well-trained, and intelligent enough to know not to knock down the barrels. A good race horse can cost upwards of $50,000.00.
