Odjick's professional career started in 1990 when he was drafted by the
Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round (86th total). Gino Odjick is a full-blooded
Algonquin indian that spends most of his free time to
teach indian kids about the dangers of substance abuse. He
knows how hard it is to break out from a life in a reservation
and make it on the outside. He has done alot of
extensive work on promoting the hazards of substance abuse.
When Gino's professional career began in 1990 after just 17 games with Milwaukee
(IHL) where he recorded 10 pts and 102 pim, he became an immediate success. His
NHL debut came against the Chicago Blackhawks November 21. 1990, and with #66 on
his back, he created totally havoc on the ice giving everybody the message that
he was there to stay. After fighting three Hawks, among them Stu Grimson, and
awarded victory in all three bouts, he was named the game's first-star and was a
regular on the Canuck's line-up ever since.
