Personal and Professional InformationDr. John Curry had over 15 years of experience as a community planner and consultant in the private and public sectors before returning to scholarly work. He holds a PhD from the School of Community and Regional Planning, University of British Columbia; a MA in Regional Planning and Development from the School of Urban Regional Planning, University of Waterloo; and a BSc (Honours) in Renewable Resource Development from McGill University. In addition, he is a professional member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. As a planner and consultant, he was concerned with the socio-economic and environmental planning and development in Atlantic and central Canada, and in BC. His current academic interests continue along a similar vein. He is interested in sustainable communities; more specifically, the physical planning of communities in a northern context, the restructuring of community economies to incorporate concepts of sustainability, and the institutional structures that impede change towards sustainability.
