Karen’s MA thesis research focussed on Tl’azt’en toponymy and the development of guidelines to incorporate knowledge of traditional place-names in the Yunk’ut Whe Ts’o Dul’eh (We Learn from the Land) science camp programme. An educator by training, she has taught at the primary, secondary and post-secondary levels, and has lived and worked in Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Canada’s Northwest Territories. She currently resides in Finland. Karen has an interest in onomastics (including the form and content of place-names, geographical nomenclature, ethnonyms, patronyms/surnames, etc.), language socialization, alternative education, and indigenous and cross-cultural issues.
