In September 2006, I began graduate studies at UNBC within the Improved Partnerships stream of the CURA project. I have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to work on community-based environmental monitoring research with the Tl'azt'en Nation. This project was of particular interest to me because it aimed to link academic research with community resource management efforts; to build the capacity of Tl'azt'enne, UNBC researchers and students, and JPRF staff to enhance sustainability and quality of life in their communities; and to develop and evaluate community environmental monitoring methods that support meaningful local involvement and give voice, respect, and legitimacy to indigenous knowledge and values. Also, of equal interest to me was the opportunity to work closely in partnership with the Tl'azt'en Nation; I know that I have learned a tremendous amount by working with Tl'azt'en community members and researchers. I am grateful that I was able to be a part of and contribute to the Tl'azt'en Nation - UNBC CURA project's meaningful research.

On August 18, 2009 I successfully defended my thesis. My thesis is now online and two academic articles are currently in preparation. I would like to sincerely thank all of those who were apart of and contributed to this project's success and accomplishments~ snachailya.
