Orthic Ferro-humic Podzolic Soil


They are characterized by the accumulation of organic matter and iron and aluminum in B horizon. Ferro-Humic Podzols occur mainly under forest vegetation or with heath or moss undercover. They developed mainly iron-rich parent material under hum id climate. They occur mainly on the coastal areas of British Columbia and the perhumid and humid areas of Eastern Canada. 

Selected properties:

1. They have a podzolic Bhf horizon at least 10 cm thick and lack Bh horizon of at least 10 cm thick. 

2. Do not have have an orstein at least 3 cm thick, a placic, a duric, a fragipan, a Bt horizon, nor evidence of gleying in the form of distinct or prominent mottles within 1 m of the surface 

Common horizon sequence: LFH or O, Ae, Bhf, Bf, BC, C
