Haggis
Ingredients
Sheep’s offal (heart, liver, and lungs), minced stuffing (onion, oatmeal,
suet, spices, and salt) with stock
Attractiveness
In this case, I am attracted to haggis because mainstream media seems to
portray haggis as disgusting. I’ve never had a problem eating offal before,
and I wonder why it’s so bad when I see the people moaning about it. Like
steak tartare, I cannot help but imagine the whole thing to be tender and
well-spiced, and I can almost taste it. Now, I don’t really know what it
tastes like, but what I do taste as my imagination goes wild says that
haggis will be a worthwhile pursuit.
Inspiration
I can’t pinpoint it to one specific source, but it’s definitely due to the
mainstream media portrayals of haggis in its various mediums (movies, books,
magazines, television, etc.). Every portrayal I remember seems to indicate
that haggis is absolutely disgusting, yet I cannot help but wonder if it is
because people find its appearance and ingredients so strange. Well, in
regards to food, that tends not to be a problem for me. As well, I like the
numerous legends and myths surrounding the haggis, which makes me all the
more curious about the actuality.
