How to hold a table tennis paddle?

1.Hold the paddle vertically by the head in your non-playing hand. With your playing hand, lightly grab the handle as if you were going to shake hands with someone, hence the name.

2.Place your index finger on one side of the paddle and your thumb on the other.

3.Comfortably grip the handle with your three remaining fingers.

4.Hold out your hand to see if the edge of the paddle bisects you arm. This will ensure a balance forehand and backhand side.

Tips of hold a table tennis paddle:
  • Don't use too much pressure to grip the paddle!
  • When serving don't be afraid to alter (and loosen), because you will grip for extra range of motion.
  • It is alright to make slight modifications in your grip from forehand to backhand sides.
