I, too, am a fan of 1000 page novels that are multi-part, and that explore a richly imagined alternate fantasy universe. However, I find Robert Jordan metaphysically baroque (though I keep hoping for a coherent ending to the Wheel of Time), and don't much enjoy Sarah Douglass. Here are some of the authors that I do enjoy.
