Hello and welcome. I am an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).

This website will outline my research and teaching interests. My work bridges many sub disciplines: cultural anthropology; ethnohistory; and historical archaeology, as well as, being relevant to wider audiences of historians and geographers.

Specifically, my research focuses on the intersection of identity with space, place, and landscape.  My geographical focus is Ireland; and I am interested in both colonial and post-colonial time periods.

One of my research projects explores the politics of representation of place and identity on ordnance survey maps of 19th century Ireland. Another research project involves exploring both the spatial and social marginalization, as well as, integration of asylum seekers in present day Ireland.

My teaching reflects my research interests.  Some of my key courses are focused on landscapes and culture, social inequality, and feminist perspectives in anthropology.  I also teach anthropological theory, anthropology through film, anthropology of Europe, and pop culture.

These interests carry into my work with graduate students in the Interdisciplinary Master’s Program at UNBC.
