common noun. a root of medicinal value. (plant has long stems and small yellow flowers and grows in sandy ground; roots are thin; possibly cinquefoil). usage: These small, long, narrow white roots are found in sandy soil by the edge of a river. Boil it and mix it with grease and sugar before eating
