About TPB Alternatives Article

When I found out that The Pirate Bay had sold, I personally was left with a feeling of emptiness. How does one deal with the fact that such a site is gone? Some are angry, others, like me, are sad over the news. Although, listening to the podcast now linked to in the article, it struck me that there was a comment that The Pirate Bay was about the users in an odd way.

When I wrote the 5 alternatives article I didn’t feel great about it. Like, how can one even attempt to come up with alternatives to such a site? Is it a sense of betrayel (with lack of a better word for it) to suggest that it’s time for users to move on? While deciding on whether or not to write the article, I was wound up thinking, “In the interest of The Pirate Bay or in the interest of users?” Such a question is foreign to me for very good reasons. The Pirate Bay was always about the users and to think of the two as separate for the first time was strange. Yet, here we are today where one can start thinking like that.

After the comments about being for the users, I had felt that the needs ot the users definitely outweighed what I personally think and what TPB might need and wrote the list. Right now, there’s a need for many to move on and we’re helping to facilitate that. So I feel better about writing that article now. Still don’t feel grand about it, but it’s necessary.
