What is the purpose of this page ?

I receive many e-mails regarding graduate study under my supervision. Since it is often difficult for me to respond to them individually, I decided to write this page. This is not an official web-site regarding graduate studies at UNBC. For accurate information regarding graduate studies at UNBC, please visit UNBC graduate studies web-site.

If I receive an e-mail from you regarding M.Sc study at UNBC under my supervision, I will assume that you read this page before sending the e-mail.
  • Right now, we do not offer PhD degree in our program and I do not offer summer internship program in my lab. Therefore, please do not contact me regarding summer internship and PhD in my lab.

To become one of my M.Sc students ...

  • Make sure that:
    1. you satisfy the admission requirements for UNBC; and
    2. your research interest falls within the areas of my research interest .
  • Currently I do not have funds to support M.Sc students. However, there are competitive financial supports such as University Entrance Scholarship, Research Assistantship (RA), Teaching Assistantship (TA), etc. available at UNBC. TAs are two types, continuing - offered at the time of admission and term-wise - offered every term. So there are many opportunities to get some form of (full or partial) financial support during the study.
  • As part of the application , the proposed supervisor and the student need to complete the CSAM Funding Form . In the funding form, there are three questions related to TA and cost of research: 1 question for the student, 1 question for the proposed supervisor, and 1 question for both.
    • The question for the student is: Does the STUDENT require that an offer from the University include an offer of a TA ? Answering NO to this question means, winning a continuing TA is not a precondition for the admission and therefore eliminates the possibility of admission denial due to failure to obtain a continuing TA. However, this no way reduces the chance of getting a continuing TA.
    • Regarding research cost, no additional cost will be required for your research as you will be using the existing equipments and computers of my lab.
  • If you agree to the above, then send me a mail with your resume containing the GPA, the courses you have taken, projects completed, etc. I will send my decision by mail. After receiving acceptance from me, you can submit the funding form.
  • To submit the funding form, first you need to download CSAM Funding form and fill it. Then, after answering the question for you and signing the form, send it to me as an e-mail attachment for my signature. I will submit the completed form to the graduate studies office here to go into your application.
