Northern Hydrometeorology Group

This is the wiki for UNBC's Northern Hydrometeorology Group. NHG is a group of faculty, staff and students at the University of Northern BC in Prince George, BC. Our research is focused on hydrometeorological processes and their impacts on the surface energy and water budgets in high latitudes/altitudes. We use field observations, reanalysis datasets, remote sensing data, and numerical modeling to investigate these process at scales from 1 m to many kilometres.

Between us, we have expertise in;

  • fundamentals of meteorology and meteorological monitoring, including weather stations in remote locations and harsh environments
  • snow physics, particularly redistribution of snow by wind and remote sensing of snow covers
  • river discharge in BC and the Arctic, its links to large-scale forcing and the impact of local conditions
  • influence of forestry and forest clearance on snow cover, snow melt, hydrology and micro-meteorology

  2. WC2N, the Western Canadian Cryospheric Network
