Research Interests
- The cryosphere (glaciers and snow)
- Interactions with hydrology and meteorology
- Arctic and Alpine regions
My research involves the integration of both fieldwork and modelling to examine the cryosphere
(glaciers and snow), its linkages to hydrology and meteorology, and its response to climate
change. Most of my work to date has been in the Canadian Arctic and Rocky Mountains, although I
will start work in the northern Coast Mountains of BC next summer. I am also involved in
mountain pine beetle (MPB) research, specifically examining the impact of MPB infestation on
the snow portion of the hydrologic cycle. I share these research interests with my students in
GEOG 100 (Environments and People), GEOG 310 (Hydrology) and GEOG 405 (Fluvial Geomorphology).
I have also initiated an International Polar Year project with several other Canadian
researchers to look at tidewater glacier response to climate change on Devon Ice Cap, Arctic
Canada.
