Preliminary site indices for eucalypts (in Spanish)

Abstract

As part of a system of growth models for eucalypts in Chile, a site index and height growth model was developed. Data came from the Instituto Forestal species introduction trial plots Richards' equation was used, with simultaneous maximum-likelihood estimation of all the parameters. Because of the small sample plot size, a new method for estimating top heights had to be devised. After an exhaustive analysis of the data by species and regions, a single model obtained with Eucalyptus globulus and E. nitens is recommended. Although these estimates are likely to be the best that can be expected to get with the available information, they have serious limitations. In order to have satisfactory models in the future, it is necessary to install and maintain an adequate permanent sample plot network.
